Preparing for Surgery

Prior to your surgery, you will be given instructions by your physician on what steps you need to take to be prepared.  If you have any questions before your surgery, please make sure to give us a call.

Preparing for Surgery 

Prepare an up-to-date list of medications and allergies and be sure to notify us of any changes.  If your doctor has provided you with specific instructions regarding your medications, be sure to follow those closely.  If you have questions, please contact your doctor or call us.

You should receive a call from us the day before your surgery to review the pre-op instructions.  If you have not received this call, or if you are not able to follow the pre-up guidelines, then please contact us immediately.

  1. If you will be having anesthesia, then be sure to have transportation arranged. Ask a friend or family member to come so that they can get you home safely.

  2. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to fit over dressings.

  3. Discontinue alcohol, tobacco and any other substances that may interfere with your surgery at least 12 hours prior to your arrival.

  4. Discontinue food and drinks according to the instructions provided to you. This will depend on whether or not you will be given sedation.  

  5. Be prepared for side effects. Ask your doctor on how to plan for post-up recovery.

  6. Plan for recovery time. Depending on your procedure, you may not be able to return to normal activities or work immediately. Make sure to discuss recovery time with your doctor.

  7. Remove all jewelry and leave all valuables at home.

If you are feeling unwell, have fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or other illnesses be sure to contact the surgical center immediately.
